MJPRU Organises Grand ‘Vriksharopan Mahayagya 2026’ Plantation Drive, Reaffirms Commitment to Green Campus

Bareilly: Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University (MJPRU), Bareilly, organised a large-scale plantation drive under ‘Vriksharopan Mahayagya 2026’ on Saturday in line with the Uttar Pradesh government’s statewide afforestation campaign aimed at planting 35 crore saplings across the state in a single day.

The programme was held under the guidance of the Higher Education Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh, with students, faculty members and university staff participating enthusiastically in the environmental initiative.

The campaign was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.P. Singh, who planted a sapling on the university campus and formally launched the plantation drive.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Singh said trees are not only essential for environmental conservation but also form the foundation of a healthy and secure future for coming generations. He described the state’s plantation campaign as a powerful example of public participation in protecting nature and urged every citizen to plant more trees and take responsibility for their care.

He encouraged students to regard every sapling as a personal responsibility and actively contribute to creating a greener and cleaner university campus.

Following the state government’s directions, plantation activities were carried out at various locations across the university. The drive witnessed active participation from faculty members, administrative officials, non-teaching staff, National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers, members of the university’s Cultural Club and students residing in university hostels.

Among those who participated were Registrar Mahendra Kumar, Horticulture Coordinator Prof. J.N. Maurya, Dean Academics Prof. S.K. Pandey, Chief Proctor Prof. Ravindra Singh, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Upendra, Director of Research Prof. Alok Srivastava, Cultural Coordinator Dr. Jyoti Pandey, Dr. Vinay Verma, Tapan Verma, Sudhakar Maurya, Sudhanshu Sharma, along with several other members of the university community.

Participants pledged to plant more trees and ensure their regular care and maintenance to promote environmental conservation, biodiversity and the vision of a greener Uttar Pradesh. The university administration described the campaign as an effective model of community participation and reaffirmed its commitment to organising similar environmental initiatives in the future.

On the occasion, Prof. Singh expressed his gratitude to Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel for her continued encouragement of environmental conservation initiatives. He said the Governor’s leadership and guidance have consistently inspired the university to undertake meaningful green initiatives and emphasise not only tree plantation but also the long-term protection and survival of saplings.

He added that the university community remains committed to transforming environmental conservation into a people’s movement and to fulfilling the objectives of the Governor’s “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign by ensuring sustained care for every tree planted.
